Nico’s present research: Stem cell bioengineering. Specifically, the generation of human blood vessels from somatic and pluripotent stem cells.听鈥淪tem cells, especially the pluripotent variety, have fascinated me for a long time, and nearly every day I think about their potential for the future of medicine.听I didn鈥檛 have a specific career in mind. I was contemplating everything from medicine and healthcare management to landscaping, private contracting, and masonry. It鈥檚 obvious my career goals have changed now that I am working towards a PhD from the UBC SBME. Additionally, I am considering an M.D. following my PhD so that I may apply my experience and knowledge in stem cell bioengineering towards the development and implementation of new clinical cell therapies.鈥澨

Nico’s BHMS testimonial: 鈥淛ust as I was during my time in BHMS, I continue to have a fervor for life, coupled with an unexplainable amount of energy. I currently live in Vancouver and enjoy backcountry mountaineering, surfing, spearfishing, and freediving. I feel the adventure-driven side of me was able to develop in part through the less-conventional field trips offered by BHMS i.e., farm camping, week-long bike trips, Montreal and Quebec City.鈥 Read听all BHMS graduate testimonials, including Nico’s…
